Quick answers
- Who was top of the Six Nations after round 3 of 2023?
- Ireland led the Six Nations after round 3 of 2023. With 15 points, they were 5 ahead of Scotland.
- What was decided in round 3 of the 2023 Six Nations?
- Out of the title race: Italy, Wales. Can no longer finish last: Ireland, Scotland, England, France.
- How is this calculated?
- A team is counted as still able to win the Six Nations, or to finish last, when at least one set of results for the matches left would put it there, taking into account that its rivals also play each other. It is counted as sure only when no set of results can take it away. Every way the matches left can be won, drawn or lost is played out, with the championship's own points: four for a win, two for a draw, a bonus point for scoring four tries or more, another for losing by seven points or fewer, and three more for a team that wins all five of its matches, the Grand Slam. Teams level on points are treated cautiously while matches remain: level is enough to stay in, never enough to be sure, because points difference and tries scored only separate teams once the last match is played.
